Inspired by the extraordinary efficiency of spider webs, this smart material is designed to withstand high-energy impacts generated by particles traveling at extreme speeds in space, without losing functionality or integrity.
Its modular architecture, made of interconnected cells with different physical properties, allows it to absorb and distribute stresses synergistically, protecting the most delicate orbital infrastructure. It is not only resilient: it is also adaptive. In fact, the structure is able to respond “intelligently” to external stimuli, modulating its behavior according to impact and environmental conditions.
